The Cromer Light Railway Club was formed in 2020 to build a miniature railway in Cromer. Many of the members were formally part of the now closed Ashmanhaugh Light Railway where the pictures on this site were taken.
The new railway will be 7 1/4" gauge and the club has several different locomotives and 3 carriage sets.
Cromer Light Railway Club (CLRC) has acquired a 20 year lease on approximately 3 acres of land adjacent to Cromer PYO and plans to construct a miniature passenger railway. The piece of land is railway unfriendly in the extreme, being pretty much on the side of a hill. The plan is to create two flat plains, one low level, the other 17’ higher, connected by two gradients, one of them spiral.
The Club has over 2000’ of freshly refurbished track, a bunch of points and signals, 2 electric locos, 2 petrol/hydraulic locos, 1 steam locomotive, 10 x 4-seater bogie passenger coaches and 2 works trucks. The railway will be constructed in 3 Phases. Phase 1 will first include the carriage and engine sheds contained within a distorted oval test track. Once that’s done the through station and it’s single approach and exit track will be added giving initially a 1,400’ run the final stage of Phase 1 will increase the length of the running line to 2,000’. Phase 2 will follow in short order, increasing the length of run to about 3,200 and when Phase 3 is completed the estimated 20 minute run will be just shy of a mile.
Starting with a clean slate the building of this railway will be an adventure of epic proportions. If you’d like to know more or become a part of CLRC please contact us at

Potential new members who have the time to put in a day’s work on a regular basis will be made most welcome at the CLRC.
The CLRC would welcome any financial assistance to help us get this fun project off the ground. Please contact us on our email or telephone number for more information.
